Test of English as a Foreign Language

(TOEFL)

English Language Requirements for International Students

All international students, except those whose native language is English, must have a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 500 or higher to be considered for admission to most US and Canadian universities.  Some Departments within universities have established different minimum score requirement.

International students who have completed one or more degrees (baccalaureate or higher) from a college or university in the U.S. and Canada will not be required to submit English language test scores for admission.  Similarly, international students who are natives of a country where English is the first language and who hold one or more degrees (baccalaureate or higher) from a college or university where English is used as the first language are not required to submit English language test scores.  However, it should be noted that such students, after admission and registration at some universities, and upon the recommendation of their department, may be required to schedule ESL (English as a Second Language) courses.

International students who do not hold a U.S. or Canadian degree (baccalaureate or higher), who desire to transfer to U.S. or Canadian universities from other U.S. and Canadian colleges or universities, and do not have a current (not over two years old) national TOEFL score, must retake the TOEFL and meet the minimum required score  or higher

Did you know that some universities in the
